Johnson County Indiana is just south of Indianapolis and home to a number of cities, towns, and townships.
Starting from the south and migrating towards Indianapolis (just as our Johnson County ancestors), you will find many outdoor activities including fishing at one of 6 different locations within the Camp Atterbury Fish and Wildlife Area, canoeing on the Blue River, camping at Johnson County Park, or a stroll through the wildflower prairie located on the south end of the park that is maintained by the Franklin College Science Department. Later visit one of several family owned restaurants and specialty shops in Edinburgh and Trafalgar. If you are looking for a family fun destination, Appleworks, located in Trafalgar, is the place. Pick apples, enjoy the flower gardens, or learn about the many varieties of apples grown in our county. If you’ve never tasted Cinnamon or Dill Pickle flavored popcorn, then Not Just Popcorn in Edinburgh is an essential stop for your travels.
Continuing northward you will enter Franklin, Indiana, the governmental seat of Johnson County. Tour the Johnson County Historical Museum, jog along the Greenway Trail in Province Park, take in a movie at the Historic Artcraft Theatre or relax at the outdoor café at the Willard. There is much rich history to explore and enjoy. Franklin is also home to Franklin College and an Ivy Tech campus.
Further north, into Whiteland and New Whiteland, visit Kelsay Farms and experience a working dairy farm up close. Don’t miss Rascal's Fun Zone and Whiteland Raceway Park which offer a variety of fun for young and the young at heart. From there, travel west into Bargersville to sample award winning wine at Mallow Run Winery and experience the tranquility of the vineyard.
Greenwood, the northern most point of our journey is home to Greenwood Park Mall, a great place for shopping as well as dining. Greenwood also maintains more than 270 acres of park land including a skate park and a dog park. Located in Greenwood is Indiana’s first fully handicapped accessible park.We invite you to Journey Johnson County today and see where the journey takes you!
